We organize half day Kumana National Park safari tours during the outbreak of the morning sun and at the peak of the afternoon heat which you can choose from as you wish. No matter what timings you choose, you will be gracefully picked up from and dropped back at your hotel at Arugam Bay showing you the best of the national park that covers a massive area of land of 35,664 hectares. A special feature here is that an area of about 200 hectares is allocated just for the sole purpose of bird watching during the months of May and June, where you could see several different species of birds that fly here to hibernate. This is also one of the reasons why exploring the Kuman National Park is one of the most popular activities amongst both the local and foreign tourists to the area.

Our Kumana National Park Safari Tour doesn’t just cover bird watching, you can also enjoy splendid moments of seeing several species of reptiles, and turtles as well as capture memorable moments of seeing a large number of wild animals in the area. Some animals and bird varieties you can see in Kumana are Elephants, Leopards, Golden Jackal, Wild Boar, European Otter, Mugger Crocodile, turtles, pelicans, painted storks, Lesser Whistling Glossy Ibis, Purple Heron, Great Egret, Indian Pond Heron, Weathercock, Purple Swamphen, Intermediate Egret, spoonbills, white ibis, herons, egrets, and Duck Black-crowned Night Heron.

We had a great tour with Ansa! He was very knowledgeable about the birds and various animals in the lagoon. He said if any questions asked were asked that he couldn’t answer, he would go away and research it. We were given snacks & a drink before going on the lagoon which was a nice way to start the day due to the early morning. We saw lots of elephants, bats, birds and crocodiles.

Ansa then went out of his way to show us more crocodiles in some marshland before taking his back to our hotel.

I would definitely recommend this tour as it was such a peaceful way to see animals and was one of our highlights so far in our Sri Lanka trip 😊 This is a hidden gem!

We had an amazing day at Kumana National Park. Our guide Manaf was super attentive, and stopped or slowed down whenever we wanted to take photos or observe the animals. Manaf told us that he has 12 years of experience as a guide in this park, and it shows: while he was driving he spotted birds in the trees, far away elephants and bear traces in the sand. He showed a lot of effort so that we get to see leopards and crocodiles, and we were one of the last groups to leave the park. Highly recommended! Budget Arugambay Tours

It was a absolutely lovely trip! We saw a lot of animals! Unfortunately no leopard but I know it‘s sometimes hard to find! Our driver tried very hard! And he behaved absolutely respectfully to the animals and kept distance, so we could watch them (not like others who drove to close to elephants so that they escaped! So thanks for the beautyfull tour! Thank you Ansa

Today, we went on a safari in Kumana National Park, and it was an unforgettable experience! Our guide, Manaf – we called him “Eagle Eye” – was absolutely incredible. From more than 20 meters away, while driving, he spotted a leopard lying down! He then carefully took us closer to the spot, and we were able to see the leopard from just 2 meters away. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Thank you so much, Manaf!
Really professional safari operator in Arugam Bay.

We (6 adults + 17 and 19 years old children) were on the half day Kumana Private Jeep Safari in the afternoon (end of July) and it was really incredibly impressive!
It was not very crowded in the park (only a few jeeps) and the driver was very friendly and could drive very pleasantly!
We also had a guide (a ranger) and he was also very nice and really a very experienced ranger and safari guide! He gave us a lot of background information and he was really very good at his job and we must have been very lucky because we saw almost all the animals you can see:
    – two sloths, bears
    – a leopard
    – elephants
    – crocodiles
    – deer
And we also saw many great birds in a really exotic, dreamlike atmosphere.
We can highly recommend this tour!

Wonderful experience on safari. Manaf managed to put us on to a leopard first thing in the morning, and pointed out all the best animals for the rest of the day. Budget Arugam bay tours was very accommodating in helping organise a special day for a birthday. We all had such an awesome experience!
Amazing afternoon safari! Easy to arrange and to contact the company. Our guides were simply fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly! We even saw a leopard!! Could not recommend Arugambay Tours more! The best safari we did in Sri Lanka. Thank you!
